Project Information

Background

It is vital for sexual health organizations and programs to use medically and scientifically accurate information for educating the public. Unfortunately, many health educators do not always know how and where to access credible resources. The Medical Institute for Sexual Health (MI) recognized this problem and decided to seek funding from the Dept of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families to develop an online workshop to train educators how to access medically accurate sexual health information through the Internet.

The Project

The Online Medical Accuracy Training project offers two training sessions on how The National Library of Medicine’s (NLM’s) PubMed database is a useful tool for finding scholarly, up-to-date, credible medical and scientific journal articles. MI selected PubMed because it is a free resource developed by the government that contains over 22 million medical and scientific journal citations. The training will also show participants basic search strategies, how to locate full text articles, additional useful Internet sources as well as how to evaluate sources for medical accuracy.
